Youth in Motion's Top 20 Under 20TM Program
How Youth in Motion's Top 20 Under 20 Program will benefit from Equity Through Education The proceeds from Equity Through Education are allocated to the Top 20 Under 20 Award fund. Top 20 Leaders each gain a one-time $5,000 award to help them reach their educational goals. In June 2010, for the first time, because of Equity Through Education's donation to the Top 20 program, Youth in Motion was able to recognize the achievements and encourage the educational aspirations of the 20 Finalists, each of whom gratefully received $500. In addition to assisting Youth in Motion in granting awards that both improve lives through education and help diversify the Canadian workplace, BMO Capital Markets funding deepens the awareness of the award recipients of a range of educational and career paths by helping to support two significant learning experiences—the Top 20 Under 20 Leadership Summit week and a year-long leadership development and mentoring program—which foster the skills and aptitudes and fuel the passions of these outstanding students. These are unique learning experiences that, truly, the Top 20 Leaders "otherwise would not have had". About Youth in Motion's Top 20 Under 20 Award Program Youth in Motion delivers highly effective and efficient programs for all youth that provide the tools, skills, confidence and support they need to realize their full potential. Top 20 Under 20 Results The Top 20 Under 20 Leaders utilize the training, leadership development, educational funding, and mentor relationships of the Top 20 Under 20 Program to make positive differences in their communities, across the country and internationally. Having been awarded Kitsilano Secondary's "Excellence in Service" Award, Ivet Bell of Vancouver is a prime example. Her over 600 hours of outstanding service has impacted her own community and many others around the world. Elected President of the Vancouver District Student Council after one year as a student representative, Ivet initiated many projects, including "Beyond Borders", which aids orphanages in Peru and Vietnam and drew the full support of Vancouver's entire, 18-school student body. Ivet also founded "The Walk". Now successfully replicated by other schools, this series of walkathons raises funds for a Namibian orphanage and enables students to volunteer abroad. At 16, Ivet's accomplishments and academic excellence garnered her early acceptance to Harvard, Cornell and UBC, and her extensive capacity for leadership resulted in her election as the first Canadian representative on the National Youth Council of America.
