M&A Advisory Biographies
Andre is Head of the BMO Capital Markets Global Mergers & Acquisitions group, which consists of over 60 professionals located primarily in Toronto and Chicago. Daniel is Head of the BMO Capital Markets Canadian Mergers & Acquisitions group. He has extensive capital markets and M&A experience. Daniel’s recent assignments have included advising Canadian Tire on its $800 million acquisition of Forzani Group, Consolidated Thompson of its $5 billion sale to Cliffs, Woodbridge on its $3.2 billion sale of BellGlobeMedia, Value Creation on its $1 billion joint venture with BP plc, Goldcorp on its sale of Terrane Minerals, Tristar Energy on its $2.5 billion merger with Petrobakken, Progress Energy on its $3.0 billion merger with Proex, BP on its integrated oil sands and refining joint venture with Husky Energy, Canetic Energy Trust on its $5 billion sale to Penn West Energy Trust, Falcon Oil and Gas on its joint venture with Exxon in Hungary, TransAlta Power LP on its $600 million sale to Cheung Kong Infrastructure, Miramar Mining on its $1.5 billion sale to Newmont, Nelson Petroleum on its $2.0 billion sale to LUKOIL and EnCana on its $1.5 billion sale of its oil pipelines. Prior to joining BMO Capital Markets in 2003, he spent a combined 13 years in investment banking at Morgan Stanley, where he ran the Canadian Energy Group, and at Scotia Capital, where he ran the Power Group. John has been involved in a wide range of public and private advisory mandates but focuses much of his time on advising clients in resource-based industries. Some of his notable advisory mandates include advising BP on its integrated oil sands joint venture with Husky Energy, advising Consolidated Thompson on its sale to Cliffs, advising Newmont on its acquisition of Fronteer Gold and its consolidation of the Boddington gold mine, advising Andean on its sale to Goldcorp, advising UNX Energy on its sale to Participações em Petróleo, advising Uramin on its sale to AREVA, advising Aquiline Resources on its sale to Pan American Silver, advising Falcon Oil & Gas on its joint venture with ExxonMobil, advising Inmet on its hostile acquisition of Petaquilla Copper, advising Teck Cominco on its sale of several gold assets, and advising Gold Eagle Mines on its sale to Goldcorp. Mark is a Managing Director in the BMO Capital Markets Mergers & Acquisitions group. Mark has a broad range of transactional experience, including: public sale transactions (sale of Call-Net Enterprises to Rogers Communications); private sale transactions (sale of Telus’ directory business, sale of First Canadian Centre in Calgary); unsolicited bids and responses (Teck Cominco’s bid for Inco; sale of Calpine Power Income Fund); going-private transactions (SITQ’s acquisition of Bentall Corporation); and cross-border transactions (MacDonald Dettwiler’s acquisition of Marshall & Swift/Boeckh, ATK’s bid for MacDonald Dettwiler). Gary is a Managing Director in the BMO Capital Markets Mergers & Acquisitions group. He has over 15 years of experience advising on purchase and sale mandates, merger transactions, and valuations and fairness opinions. Rahul is a seasoned mergers and acquisitions practitioner with more than two decades of experience in the field as an investment banker, a corporate executive, and a commercial lawyer. Prior to rejoining BMO Capital Markets in February 2010, Rahul was Senior Vice-President and Group General Manager, Enterprise Market Segment at Celestica Inc., a global technology manufacturing and supply chain management company, where he had full P&L responsibility for this multi-billion dollar global business that had major operations in more than 10 countries. Before this role, Rahul held the position of Senior Vice-President of Corporate Development, where he was responsible for setting and executing Celestica’s non-organic growth strategy, including executing and integrating all global mergers and acquisitions. Rahul’s first career was as a partner at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg, following which he spent several years as a Managing Director in the BMO Capital Markets Mergers & Acquisitions group before joining Celestica. Sarfraz has over 14 years of experience advising clients on a wide array of M&A assignments, including purchase and sale mandates, valuations, strategic alternatives reviews, and restructuring mandates. His most recent transactions include Franco-Nevada’s acquisition of Gold Wheaton ($830 million), FNX’s merger with Quadra Mining ($1.7 billion), Quadra FNX’s sale to KGHM ($3.5 billion), Trafigura Beheer’s purchase of Iberian Minerals ($512 million), Aquiline’s sale to Pan American ($626 million), Western Goldfields’ merger with Newgold ($285 million) and Moto Goldmines’ sale to Randgold ($519 million). He has also taken a lead role in the development of the firm’s Metals and Mining M&A franchise in China, including advisory roles for China Minmetals, Jiangxi Copper, Northwest Nonferrous International, Jinduicheung Molybdenum, Jinchuan Group, China National Nuclear, Zijin Mining Group, and the China-Africa Development Fund. He joined BMO Capital Markets in 1998. Ariel leads the BMO Capital Markets Mergers & Acquisitions group covering financial institutions. He has significant transaction experience in a wide range of public and private M&A assignments spanning a number of sectors, including: TMX Group on its pending unsolicited proposal from Maple Group; Research in Motion on its unsolicited take-over bid and successful acquisition of Certicom Corp; E. I. Du Pont de Nemours & Company on the privatization of Du Pont Canada; and the successful hostile take-over defence and sale of Hudson’s Bay Company. Gregory P. Meligrigoris, CA, CFA Greg is a Director in the BMO Capital Markets Mergers & Acquisitions group. He has been involved in numerous public and private mergers & acquisitions transactions, and valuation and fairness opinion matters. Greg has been involved in several notable transactions including advising Cossette on its successful defence against Cosmos Capital’s unsolicited bid and the subsequent $140 million sale to Mill Road Capital, advising StorageMart on the $416 million unsolicited bid for InStorage REIT, advising MEGA Brands on a $75 million recapitalization, advising BCE on the $51.7 billon sale to a consortium led by Teachers’ Private Capital, advising BCE on the $1.3 billion recapitalization and sale of Bell Globemedia, advising the Independent Committee of Rogers Wireless Communications on the $867 million going-private bid by Rogers Communications, and advising the Special Committee of St. Lawrence Cement Group on the $681 million going-private bid by Holcim. Sophia has been a part of the Mergers & Acquisitions group since 2007. Previously, she was part of the Power & Utilities group of BMO Capital Markets for more than two years. Sophia has been involved in a broad scope of advisory mandates with a focus on restructuring assignments, including the cross-border CCAA / Chapter 11 filing for AbitibiBowater Inc. Prior to joining BMO, Sophia spent over a year in Equity Research covering trusts in the Power & Utilities space. Sophia also spent four years with Ernst & Young, working in their Assurance and Advisory group in Toronto and Sydney, Australia. Scott is an Executive Managing Director and Head of the BMO Capital Markets U.S. Mergers & Acquisitions group. Based in Chicago, Scott is responsible for U.S. M&A practice and oversees a team of 30 professionals. Scott has extensive M&A advisory and financing experience at a senior level, having acted on dozens of high profile transactions. He spent almost a decade at Deutsche Bank and its predecessor companies, most recently in Deutsche Bank's Chicago office where he was responsible for that office's M&A practice, including client relationship management, transaction sourcing, execution and quality control. Prior to moving to Chicago, Scott spent seven years in New York City with BT Wolfensohn (Bankers Trust's M&A group prior to Deutsche Bank's acquisition of Bankers Trust in 1999). Before BT Wolfensohn, he was a principal at Brass Rock Holdings, a Cleveland-based buyout and financial advisory boutique, and spent several years in various corporate finance functions in private company settings. Scott joined BMO Capital Markets in 2007. Chuck is a Vice Chairman at BMO Capital Markets. With more than 25 years of experience in the Food & Agribusiness marketplace, Chuck is responsible for initiating and executing investment banking transactions in the Food & Agribusiness sectors in North America. Before joining BMO Capital Markets, he was Senior Vice President and manager of the Harris Capital Markets Group. Prior to Harris, Chuck was Director of Mergers and Acquisitions for Elders Grain, Inc. where he managed acquisitions for the Australian agribusiness firm in North America. Early in his career Chuck held senior positions in domestic and export cash grain trading, futures trading, and truck, rail and barge transportation logistics with Consolidated Grain and Barge Company. Mike is a Managing Director in the Mergers & Acquisitions group, responsible for originating and executing M&A advisories in the Food and Consumer sectors. Prior to joining BMO, Mike was the head of Consumer and Retail M&A at Wachovia Securities. Over his career, Mike has advised public and private companies, financial sponsors, special committees, and boards of directors on a broad array of engagements, including sellside, buyside, stock and cash mergers, hostile defense, and go private transactions. Mike began his M&A career at Bowles Hollowell Conner & Co., which was acquired by First Union Securities prior to First Union’s merger with Wachovia. Mike also worked for The G7 group, a Washington D.C. based economic consulting firm. Karen is a Managing Director in the BMO Capital Markets Mergers & Acquisitions group, specializing in the Food, Consumer and Retail sector. For over 17 years, she has advised public and private mid-cap clients and financial sponsors on mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance transactions. Karen’s advisory experience spans multiple industry sub-sectors and transactions ranging from hostile takeover defense to recapitalizations. Prior to joining BMO Capital Markets, Karen was with Banc One Capital Markets, Inc. for 10 years where she specialized in mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance. Seth is a Managing Director in the BMO Capital Markets Mergers & Acquisitions group, where he focuses on the business services, education and media industries. Seth has extensive transaction and strategic advisory experience advising public and private clients in a variety of assignments, including acquisitions, divestitures and carve-outs. Prior to joining BMO Capital Markets, Seth worked in the Retail Industry group and the Mergers & Acquisitions Department in Morgan Stanley’s New York and Singapore offices, and in the Mergers & Acquisitions area at the Chicago office of Lazard Frères. Brett joined BMO Capital Markets in April 2010 as a Managing Director responsible for the Healthcare Mergers and Acquisitions effort. Prior to joining BMO Capital Markets, Brett was Chief Financial Officer at Lux Biosciences, a private biopharmaceutical company focused on ophthalmology. Previous to working at Lux, Brett was a Managing Director and senior member of Piper Jaffray’s healthcare investment banking group where he was responsible for a variety of M&A and financing transactions. Previous to working at Piper, Brett was a founding member of the Healthcare Mergers and Acquisitions group at Cowen & Company. Brett began his investment banking career in the Mergers and Acquisitions group at Kidder Peabody/PaineWebber. Ariel leads the BMO Capital Markets Mergers & Acquisitions group covering financial institutions. He has significant transaction experience in a wide range of public and private M&A assignments spanning a number of sectors, including: TMX Group on its pending unsolicited proposal from Maple Group; Research in Motion on its unsolicited take-over bid and successful acquisition of Certicom Corp; E. I. Du Pont de Nemours & Company on the privatization of Du Pont Canada; and the successful hostile take-over defence and sale of Hudson’s Bay Company. Pete Boukouzis joined BMO Capital Markets in 2009. Prior to joining BMO Capital Markets, Pete spent nearly eight years at Rothschild Inc. focusing on M&A transactions in the oil and gas industry. Pete started his career in the Global Oil and Gas Group at UBS. Pete has worked on M&A assignments in the upstream, services, midstream and downstream sectors of the oil and gas industry and has executed both public- and private-company transactions. Prior to business school, Pete worked as a Chemical Engineer in the oil industry. Steven is a Director in the BMO Capital Markets Mergers & Acquisitions group. He has had extensive experience advising clients on a wide array of public and private M&A assignments, including purchase and sales mandates, valuations, strategic alternatives, corporate divestitures, and restructuring mandates. Prior to joining BMO Capital Markets, Steven was with J.P. Morgan for five years, spending time in both the Leveraged Finance Group in New York and the Mergers and Acquisitions group in Chicago. Zack is a Director in the BMO Capital Markets Mergers & Acquisitions group, where he focuses on the business services sector. He has almost a decade of broad-based experience in various phases of advisory engagements and capital raising transactions that include strategic acquisitions and divestitures, leveraged buyouts, and equity and debt offerings. Prior to joining BMO Capital Markets in 2007, Zack was a Vice President at Banc of America Securities where he was responsible for originating and executing transactions and performing strategic advisory assignments for clients in the branded consumer products and business services sectors. He began his investment banking career as an Associate in the Mergers & Acquisitions group at Wachovia Securities. Earlier, Zack launched two information technology and web consulting firms and was also a consultant helping clients in the energy industry optimize internal processes using proprietary software tools. Dennis is a Director in the BMO Capital Markets Mergers & Acquisitions group. His primary focus is originating and executing mergers and acquisitions in the commercial and industrial sector. For more than 10 years, Dennis has been focused on mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance for both industrial and consumer companies. Most recently, prior to joining BMO Capital Markets, Dennis was with Deutsche Bank Securities Inc. where his primary focus was originating and executing mergers and acquisitions for public and private industrial companies. Before joining Deutsche Bank, Dennis held positions at Sara Lee where he focused on treasury and special corporate finance projects. Earlier in his career, Dennis received his C.P.A. and performed financial statement audits at McGladrey & Pullen for middle market companies. |
