Tax Exempt Debt Underwriting The market expertise of the Fixed Income group is the reason we are one of the top underwriters in the U.S., consistently ranking in the Bond Buyers’ Top 25 Underwriters of Long Term Issues nationwide. In addition, with our Fixed Income group headquartered in Chicago, we have a very strong presence in Illinois and the Midwest. We consistently rank in the top 10 underwriters of bank-qualified debt in the U.S. Success in the competitive market comes from the firm’s distribution capability, enabling us to price transactions at the lowest interest cost, while offering bonds to clients at the best available rates. Our strategy of generating strong pre-sale orders and fair pricing has enabled the firm to excel during difficult periods for the municipal market. Taxable Debt Underwriting Our taxable debt desk is active in U.S. govenment, government-sponsored enterprise debt, and mortgage-backed securities markets. The most rapidly growing segment is the underwriting/trading of government sponsored enterprise debt or GSEs. The firm maintains an active secondary market in securities issued by Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB), Government National Mortgage Association (GNMA), Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA) and Federal Home Loan Mortgage Association (FHLMC). About 50% of our business consists of taxable bonds and 50% consists of tax-exempt securities.
